He's really smart and formal. He really challenged me and this gave me the
satisfaction of having completed a very difficult course - I got an A! I
worked so hard and he was so nice at the end of the semester to tell me
that I did a good job and my hard work paid off! |

While I have heard even from my tutor (the really cool old guy in the tutor
center) that he is sexist, I did learn a lot from this class. The homework
was neccessary for learning, and to claim that there was too much is
ridiculous; you're all just too use to the easy teachers Cuesta has that
lets you just breeze by in classes without actually doing anything or
learning anything for that matter. I agree that he doesn't explain
everything, but he has a lot of content to go through so you can't expect
him to go through every little detail until every single person in the
lecture hall understands. |

Mr. Brundage was a pretty good teacher. I had him for both 1A and 1B. He
was a good lecturer. On some chapters he would cover in depth and on others
that were not that important he wouldnt put to much emphasis on. Yes he did
assign alot of homeowrk, but that made me learn what he was talking about
and understanding the concepts. The test were pretty easy to understand if
you did the homework. He would answer questions after class and during the
office hours. I had a few questions on a test and he explained to me what i
messed up on and it was helpful. He was a good teacher that i liked. |

Not to insult anyone that has posted negative reviews on this site, but if
the received a bad grade in this class it is their fault. Brundage is a
very good teacher and is willing to go over any subject in his office no
matter how many times it take for you to get it. His tests are very
straightforward and based completely off the homework and lecture. He is
very patient and very easy to understand. He is an all around good teacher.

I had a great time in his class. I found him to be very approachable
during his office hours. When I did see him during his office hours, he
taught me by having me answer my own questions by giving me hinds on how to
finsh the problem myself, instead of him just doing it for me in hopes that
I figure out what he's talking about. He is the most enthusiastic teacher
I know of on this campus, even though he just might be the oldest teacher
here. Unfortunately he will get blamed for making the class hard, but not
everybody can pass chemistry with ease. Chemisty 1A/1B is hard nomatter
who teaches it, this isnt chem 10 anymore so get with the program! |

I have taken both Chem 1A and 1B from Mr. Brundage. And I would have to
say, if it wasn't for him I would not have passed either class. These are 5
unit classes and require a lot from the student. And he is there to give
the the most important parts of the information about the subject. He may
be a little dry, but if you are up for a good challenge, he is the teacher
to deal with. And on a one on one basis, he answers questions like no
other. He has the ability to make something very complicate look and sound
so easy. And best of all he doesn't talk down to his students..... |

Mr. Brundage is one of the most enthusiastic intructors there is. If you
really want to learn chem (not just fake it and pass the class) take him.
He is not a difficult teacher, the difficulty is chemistry. |

My advice: If you want to learn chemistry, just buy the book and read it at
your own pace, because this guy is not going to help you if you don't
understand the material! This class was a big waste of my time and I'm
sorry that it was required for my major. He holds a monopoly on the course
so he can be allowed to be the jerk he is. Also, avoid Ellen Mager - she's
really moody and is his laboratory teacher for the class. She's the
nastiest teacher I have ever had! Good teachers to take are Sue McClure,
Ken Ward, and Robert Allen - these people are extremely good and helpful! |

Brundage is the perfect example of a teacher who should of retired years
ago. He is very knowledgable, but has very little passion left for this
subject. His lectures are dry and uninventive. You could just as easily
read the book and learn about the same amount of info. In a subject as
difficult as this one a good teacher is vital. Take this class with
Brundage and Chemistry will be ruinded for you. It's not the homework it's
the guy teaching that does it. |

He is a very trying to present a difficult subject. He is very energetic
and insperational. Yes, there is a lot of homework but it is necessary to
learn the sbject completly. Test are straight forward by focusing on the
main subjects. Don't try to study everything in the chapters just know
everything on the main subjects. Hands down by far the best chem teacher
alive. I really liked him he made class fun. Two thumbs up. If you
didn't like him it was because you were too lazy to study or do the
homework. |

I agree with the last review. Mr. Brundage is a great teacher, and is very
energetic. There IS a lot of homework but what 5 unit class doesnt have a
lot of homework? his lectures are never dry and the way he delivers his
lectures gives little tricks to remember things. If you are looking for an
easy A for a GE requirement look elsewhere, but if you want to learn
chemistry from a good teacher take this class. |

Unlike the reviews above, I feel Mr. Brundage is a pretty good instructor.
Yes, there is a lot of homework, but it is necessary to understand the
subject. Chemistry is hard, plain and simple. You can't blame the
difficulty on the instructor.
As for the accusation that he doesn't answer questions - that is partly
true. He usually asks for a student to voulenteer an answer. This is
better than him answering the question because you are hearing it explained
in different words.
Regarding his lack of feedback on homework, he has an incredible number of
papers to grade on a daily basis. No instructor would write detailed
feedback with that many. If you are ever confused, he is always available
right after class to answer questions.
He is pretty old, but is full of energy, and is very willing to help you
out. Don't avoid chemistry because of Mr. Brundage. |

Basically, if you want to pass this class you will need a very good
background knowledge in Chemistry. He assigns an insane amount of homework
every night, and he teaches the basics from a very cryptic text book and
follows it fairly closely. Chemistry is in the details, unfortunately Mr.
Brundage leaves the details out hoping you can translate the text book for
the rest. |

Mr Brundage isn't helpful. He woun't answer questions in class. Lecture
time isn't spent well. Homework is due every day and is never reviewed or
explained. He is the only CHEM 1A teacher right now but the science
department is looking for a new teacher. Unless you need to take his class
now wait for a new teacher. |
