Very cool teacher. I would take him again. He is very interesting. His
teaching method is a little different. There is not too much work either.
Just do what is assigned and you will be fine.

I like this class but I was disappointed that when my essays were handed
back to me every single one of them had a fat C on it. He says one thing
but grades another. Class discussions where fun and very inviting but he
really pushes. Nice guy, hard grader.

Take his class. He's really laid back, such a cool guy, pretty funny,
doesn't care if you show up to class or not. He usually talks about pretty
interesting stuff and he's really interested in what he teaches. He's
reallly easy to get along with. Take his class. You won't regret it.

I had Professor Baeyen for ENGL 1A during the first part of the semester (I
dropped out part-way through). I had English 56 from another teacher and
recieved and A in the class without much trouble. This teacher has some
interesting ideas about writting that could prove very effective. At first,
all he seemed to want is that you write what you want about something you
did and provide an easy-to-see moral in the story. The essay that I wrote
for his first assignment did not have good enough and easy-to-see moral for
him to give it a good grade--he said he would give me at most a high C. He
likes emmotional stories that illustrate age-old proverbs (i.e., don't
blame an animal for something it did because it really doesn't know
anything better than to follow its instincts). For a guy, I think that this
class may be more tough than for a girl. I must say, though, that he is
very nice in person and definately enjoys teaching.

Actually, you don't need to attendant to the class, because he don't care
at all. At the end of the semeter, you will know some student never in the
class.
Also, You won't learn anything from him, because he did not teach anything
(or he don't know),just BS some of the structure, read some paragraph
together. and that's it.
The topic his choose is kind of fuzzy. seems like write a personal letter
than the academic writting.

I don't know how to talk about him. may be the previous student think he is
a good teacher, because he don't care your attendant.

Waste of money.

There is nothing much to say. The people before me already did the job.

One thing I can say is, I'm taking his 1A class right now, and I will take
his 1B class next semester.

This is seriously one of the best teachers I've had at Cuesta or in my
whole education. Dennis Baeyen teaches the material in a conversational
style chock full of funny stories from his life which would probably appeal
to the non-English major because it keeps the class moving.
I had him for Creative Writing and am taking Shakespeare with him right
now, and both classes are wonderful. He's definitely helped me improve my
creative writing and my analytical skills too.
I'd recommend him to English and non-English majors of the like--he's got a
cool sense of humor, he's easy going, and he incorporates everyone into
class discussion. His classes are my only classes in which I actually know
everyone's name. So if you get the opportunity to take a class with Dennis
Baeyen, don't pass it up. He rules!

DENNIS BAEYEN, there are too many good things to say about this guy

his personality is kind, sincere, good-humoured, approachable, and he
obviously loves teaching, loves his students, loves his subject material,
and loves life

he has a very balanced approach to teaching-- he lectures with humor and
includes personal stories when appropriate, but he seems less interested in
talking about himself, and more interested in hearing what his students
have to say/read what they have to write

he will give you positive, helpful, encouraging, concise feedback on your
work

he is extremely laid-back, so it won't matter if you miss class, but you
probably won't want to miss class because it is enjoyable

his classes can be easy or hard because he leaves a lot of it in your
hands, and you can challenge yourself as much or as little as you want to

I had him for creative writing and shakespeare and they were both winners.
I recommend

PS- ladies, he is a very distinguished handsome older man... beware the
spell of handsomeness

I had this teacher for HIS 15 Shakespeare. Great class for the subject.
In English 1b this semester I made sure I had him for this class again
because his class is simply, simple! Just read the material, attend
class for discussions (helps on his quizzes), and put real thought into it
and you get yourself a good grade. Great teacher, easy to get along with,
recommend him for any english class he offers to teach.

Mr Baeyen is an awesome, easy-going teacher. He doesn't mind to much if you
miss a class or if you decide to walk out part-way through. If your cell
phone rings in class, he allows you to go outside and answer it. He is very
open-minded and does not pick favorites. He treats all his students with
respect. If you miss a few classes, its no big deal because chances are
that he will go over what he talked about the following class. The class
can get boring because of the repetition, but the bright side is that there
are no tests or quizzes except the Final and the test that is required of
him to give based on the reading in the Library Research workbook.

The only homework that we actually have is 6 essays, but he gives you
plenty of time to work on them. When you turn in the essay, he makes
corrections and suggestions and hands them back to you to work on. He
doesn't give the essays an actual grade until the end of the semester when
all of them have to be turned in in a folder. Only then does he grade them.
If you are having trouble choosing a topic, he is always willing to help
you out.

He will also give Professional Essays for you to take home and read, but he
will usually talk about the essay the next class, so it's ok if you forget
to read it.

The other homework is the Library Research booklet which is super easy, but
don't wait to the last minute on it because chances are, everyone else will
wait and you won't get it done in time.

Overall, a great teacher and I highly reccomend him for anyone.

I have enjoyed both the classes I have had Dennis Baeyen teach. He is very
knowledgable and taught me a lot of new things about writing and improving
my writing. He is a cooperative teacher and very nice to students. I
highly recommend his courses.
