A relatively difficult class! He has 8 writing assignments that are about 2
double spaced pages long. These are pretty simple, just read about a
specific work and attempt to make the connections that he wants (if you
sincerely try you will do well). He also has 4 quizes that are fill in the
blank. And 3 tests that are basically rewrite one of your writing
assignments, 5 fill in the blank questions, and 5 art identifications. Make
flashcards and you will never miss an ID, do well on writing assignments
and your test grades will be good too. Sit in the front of class and engage
him intellectually. He is a nice man if you're not the "cool kid in the
back."

This is one of my favorite teachers at Cuesta, I was hesitant to take the
class and I have a big fat A. If you put in jut a little bit of extra
effort he will help you out, the art games are fun and the journals are
intense but have him read them before you turn them in and he will be happy
to help you! Good luck, (pay attention to dates of the artwork)

Mr. B-Smith is a spaz. He takes attendance EVERY day. I walked in 2 minutes
late and he called it an absents. Its pretty reasonable if school is like a
job, but who does that-honestly. As soon as you rush to class and are
checked in  during attendance, the class is interesting and you may learn
alot from his teaching. Take his class if your good at attendence!

I learned alot from this class.  He knows his stuff, but he is very strict
about attendance and punctuality. He is definetly not the laid back type of
teacher.  If you go to his class the quizzes/ tests are very easy. Almost
everyone in my class recieved either A's or B's on them.

Mr. Brennan smith was not liked indeed by our class, and i think he was
solidified of this fact from the results of the teacher rating.  At any
rate, he seemed to loosen up a bit towards the end of the semester, and I
learned A TONNNNNNNN of info about art in this class.  He is a pretty
decent aurator and though this subject can get somewhat dry, he understands
that and tries to make it exciting.  I took a chance on him, and I am glad.
 I have recieved my first A at cuesta.  TIPS: i didnt read the book at all
the entire semester.  YOU HAVE TO GO TO CLASS.  If you go to class you are
gaurenteed an A, and many brownie points from him, BUT if you dont go YOU
NEED TO TELL HIM YOU WILL BE ABSENT, because otherwise HE WILL NOTICE, and
get pissed.

A lot of people in my class disliked the guy, but I grew to really like him
and he made me appreciate and take intrest in art, because before i didnt
really know anything about it.

For Art Appreciation, he breaks up the course into two sections, structures
of art and art history.  He is very strict with the role because if you
don't hear the lectures, it is a good bet that you won't pass the quiz or
tests.  He lightens up a bit on the role towards the end of the semester. 
He lectures pretty quick, but he uses slides and puts the slides on-line so
you can check them out.  It may take a few classes to figure out how to
take notes that will help you later. Although it may seem hard, if you make
an effort and talk to him if you are struggling, he will try to help you if
he can.  He won't tolerate slackers though.  

This guy is a total douchebag.  He is extremely anal in the way he teaches,
takes roll, and tests the students.  If at all possible avoid this class.
